Scarlett Johansson opened the season 50 end of Saturday Night Live with a song about himself set to the song “Piano Man” by Billy Joel.
The actor from Jurassic World: Rebirth hosted the May 17 episode of the famous sketch comedy show along with musical guest Bad Bunny. The show began with an emotional cast singalong honoring its 50-year history.
“It’s Saturday at 11:30, the last episode of season 50,” Johansson sang. “Everything is a mess and the week is fuzzy, but I wouldn’t rather be here.”
The actor, who is 40 years old, was soon joined by Bowen Yang, Sarah Sherman, Heidi Gardner, Mikey Day, Ego Nwodim, and Chloe Fineman, who all sang with her. “It’s your turn to speak, sing us a song tonight, as we remember the great times we had every Saturday night for 50 years,” they all sang.
“Ladies and gentlemen, Billy Joel… wrote this song,” Johansson said as a hint that the Piano Man might show up out of the blue. Day looked upset and said, “I thought Billy Joel was going to come out.” Johansson, who has hosted SNL seven times, replied, “Oh, Mikey.” “So cute and easy.”
The monologue became funny when Fineman talked about how much she loves musical monologues and Gardner talked about how much she loves questions from the crowd. Kenan Thompson, who was acting like a fan in the crowd, asked the Jurassic World actress to introduce him to a dinosaur. This made Johansson joke that she wished she hadn’t called on him.
Ashley Padilla, Emil Wakim, and Jane Wickline, three new cast members for season 50, made cameos and sang about how thankful they were to be on the famous show, but Johansson hilariously forgot their names. She also praised actors Marcello Hernandez and Devon Walker, calling them friends, and named Andrew Dismukes and James Austin Johnson.
At the very end of the song, Johansson stunned everyone by saying that Sherman’s last season would be season 50. The group all sang together, “We’re all going to miss you next year.” She responded, “Wait, what? “, shocked. “Have you heard anything?” During the show, the joke about the comedian leaving was not brought up again.
Bad Bunny sang songs from his sixth album, Debí Tirar Más Fotos, including “NUEVAYoL” and “PERFuMITO NUEVO” at different points in the show. You can watch the shows here.
