Thanks to some giants from the past and present, New Music Friday brings the focus back to the music in a week that has seen still more turbulence in the rap game.

Missionary, the eagerly anticipated follow-up to 1993’s Dogstyle, features Snoop Dogg and Dr. Dre together, further confirming their status as maybe Hip Hop’s best rapper-producer team. Eminem, 50 Cent, Method Man, Sting, and Tom Petty are among the album’s diverse supporting cast members, but a revitalized Doggfather steals the show as he returns to his finest self over thumping, predictably polished rhythms from his mentor.

Following his untimely death in 2021, the estate of the late DMX released his second posthumous project, From Death Row to Def Jam.Let Us Pray: Chapter X is more of a four-song EP than a full-length album, although it leans into X’s more spiritual side thanks to gospel producer Warryn Campbell.

A fellow Florida’s BossMan Dlow wraps up a stellar year with Dlow Curry, named after the NBA shooter, while New York rap icon Fat Joe also makes a comeback with The World Changed On Me, his first solo album in more than ten years.
