Drake’s most recent record, $ome $exy $ongs 4 U, has sold over a million copies.
The joint project PartyNextDoor has sold one million equivalent units in the US, just three months after it came out. It has now gone platinum.
When it came out on Valentine’s Day, the record went straight to the top of the Billboard 200.
Drake’s record has been staying power; twelve weeks after it came out, it is still in the top five of the charts, even though its opening week sales of just under 250,000 were some of his lowest ever.
Another big hit from the record was “Nokia,” which peaked at number two on the Billboard Hot 100. However, Kendrick Lamar and SZA’s huge hit “Luther” took the top spot.
Drake is already working hard on a new project, even though he just released $ome $exy $ongs 4 U.
Smiley of OVO says that Drake was working on the record even while the video for “Nokia” was being made.
He said on a live stream, “Even during a break at the ‘Nokia’ video shoot, he had a bunch of producers with him and he was just recording.” Right now he’s in that crazy mode.
Also, Smiley said that Drake disappeared during a recent party so that he could work on his new record.
“We’re at a party, and he was in the other room by himself eating pasta with wired headphones while writing music while we were having a party,” he said. Right now he’s in a different mood.
Drake made it public that he was working on an album during a recent Kick stream with Adin Ross, an unpopular online personality.
He said, “Working on a new album right now,” and then he confirmed that it would be his own work. “That’s a slap.”
